Mariano Goni - Defiance

Something to know about me - I LOVE levitation/pk effects. So naturally when I saw the trailer, I got excited. I was fooled badly by the Incredible Spinning Card. I personally love and still sometimes use the Hummingbird Card and when I saw the trailer, I was mesmorized. I knew I wanted to perform that then and there!

I will review each effect seperately:
The Incredible Spinning Card:
This was the effect on the DVD that I was very excited about. I wanted to use this for my magician friends who already knew the original spinning card effect. The effect's method is cool but a little impractical. It requires a large-ish area of your performing space set up and people cannot walk through it without breaking the gimmick. So this rules out performing this for street magic in my opinion. However, I have added this into my parlour show twice so far and it worked really well. It is taught how to pass a ring through the card and make it spin back through the ring. This set up allows you to reset to perform again. You also recieve a download teaching you how to set up on the fly. The method is workable and really fun to practice. I actually spent the good part of an hour just spinning the card and bringing it back, it is very much a lot of fun. This is clever but will need to work in your performances for it to be good for you. 7.5/10

In The Air Change:
This floored me as I knew that this shouldn't work due to the nature of flash paper. However, Mr Goni came up with an ingenious method for performing this illusion. The method is clever and I tried it out a few times and it is oh, so much fun! The downside to this is that you need to set up the room in advance, there is no way to set this up on the fly. However, this shouldn't be overlooked as this is a strong piece of magic in my opinion. 9/10

Floating Bill:
This is a great version of the floating bill which allows you to pass a ring through the bill as it floats. The set up is easy to manage and you can perform all day with this set up as it is only a body hook-up. I really liked using this with a scrumpled up tissue and gave the effect and even more organic look to fit my performance style which is magic with objects that are everywhere. This is very clever and is very easy to do with a bit of practice. 8/10

Floating Cigarette (Bonus):
I don't want to give a detailed review on this because I haven't tried this out and as I am under 18, I cannot perform this. However the method, however very impractial, is super cool and unique. The issue with this is it is very impractical and you have to have everything sitting perfectly for you to perform this. Also you have to perform a switch to give out the cigarette and the switches taught aren't that great in my opinion. 6/10

You recieve a well shot and produced DVD, a gimmick and a few little bits and pieces. I try my best not to reveal things on my site so I won't give details on what the gimmick is. I believe if you are seriously into magic, you will know what the gimmick is. The gimmick is well made and will last a long time. You will need refills for a few things but it isn't that expensive. The DVD was around 2 hours and got veyr boring in some parts but everything was covered. There was one section where he spent 20 minutes explaining how to properly look after the gimmick and to fix it if it breaks. This section is very helpful.

Overall, this product offers new hook ups and routine using a powerful gimmick that has been around for ages. The hook ups are genius, no lie there. Practicality is an issue but if you really wanted to perform this, you should be able to handle it accordingly. I really liked this and these hook-ups and methods have a lot of potential and I am excited to see what people do with these. 8/10
