David Merry - Dont Panic Remain

Referred to as "Comedy’s Mad Man of Magic", David has traveled the globe for the last twenty two years performing his unique comedy magic act - headlining on cruise ships, in comedy clubs and at corporate functions. In May 2001, David attained a milestone accomplished by only a select few in Canadian entertainment, he surpassed the 5000th performance mark of his career.

To mark this occasion, David created, wrote, built and brought together a complete 80 minute one man show production called "Don’t Panic Remain.Com!" The show is hilarious and totally interactive. It is filled with many new props, inventions, several remote control gags, animatronics and pyrotechnics all performed in David’s unique Magicomedy style.

In 2003 after several hundred performances the show was nominated for "Best One Man Show" at the Canadian Comedy awards.

Set in his basement work shop, David is literally "brought on" stage by a worker carrying a tool chest from which David emerges. This is just the beginning, as David takes patrons on a roller coaster ride through his view of life that he says would be like "Tool Time meeting Rodney Dangerfield". Early in the show, David hands a spectator an urn to hold, with the remains of his dearly departed grandmother. Suddenly the tray on which it is sitting falls apart causing it to crash to the ground, the audience has just gotten a glimpse of what they’re in for during the next 80 min!

From a state of the art cycle inverser levitation to a half-human, half-skeleton automaton and everything in between the show has it all. With his hilarious anti gravity shoes David can lean over at any point in his act at 45 degrees. There is a new version of his signature piece, the straight jacket escape complete with surprise ending, catching the audience totally off guard!

David is also introducing many new and creative musical pieces including his, fairly demented version of the dancing (then cut and restored) handkerchief. It starts out like a very serious, classical magic effect, done to a Smashmouth song, and ends with an hysterical sight gag with the barstool he has been sitting on, again catching the audience out of left field!

Later in the show there is a segment where David (with a US patent pending) shows off his unique visual humour. Highlights include, "The Prison Kit" where he pulls a ten foot ladder out of a briefcase, "Body Flossing" where a piece of rope goes right through his torso, and his hilarious way to get rid of tailgaters and babysit children!

He then performs the "Rubberneck Illusion", completely twisting his head around three times and then pulling his head a few feet in the air totally stretching his neck. Near the end of the show David performs his own version of the rarely performed, psychological effect Death Trap, a bizarre blindfolded twist on the Three Shell Game.

The closing piece is a musical medley during which he performs, the "Gord of the Dance" (seen above). Dave performs a sinister trick while performing a take off on Michael Flatley's River Dance. A guaranteed show stopper and to riotous laughter.

DON'T PANIC REMAIN.COM

It’s all magic and all comedy and this show has been described as "Doug Henning meets Carrot Top doing Magic Tricks at the Munsters" "
